Prominent Apparel, one of the world’s largest suppliers of men’s and ladies’ outerwear, tailoring and shirts needed a flexible and responsive UK third party logistics provider who could handle very large daily volumes of hanging and boxed goods, with very high levels of accuracy, as well as carrying out planned and ad hoc pre retail services depending on Prominent’s customer demands.

Amethyst put together a project team to study Prominent’s operation to understand the nature and special issues relating to their complicated customer requirements. We then specified the systems and operation processes required to meet all of Prominent’s needs. Amethyst made a significant investment to provide ample capacity to store up to 300,000 hanging garments by installing a multi level mezzanine with moving hanging storage in one of our distribution centres in Staffordshire. Last year, we improved cost efficiencies further by moving the warehouse management system to the flexible RDT driven WM9 warehouse management system which gives even higher levels of speed, stock accuracy and flexibility to the operation..

This has given Prominent the freedom to concentrate on their core business while we look after their logistics, delivering to national distribution centres and retail outlets. Throughout the history of the contract we have reduced overheads and improved stock management. On average, 24,000 items are accurately despatched per day. We improved stock integrity levels to well over 99.5%. We have streamlined order processing enabling inventory reductions and improved lead times throughout the distribution operation. This faster, more flexible system continues to improve overall customer service levels.
